  • Introducing Caleb Michael

Contractions began around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day!), but did not become regular until later that evening.  We arrived at the hospital at 8:00 p.m.  Here I am at 39 weeks, 3 days, just hours before leaving for the hospital.

After about 16 hours of active labor, Caleb Michael was born Monday, February 15, 2010 at 11:23 a.m.

We were expecting a big baby, but no one could have prepared us for just how big – 9 pounds, 15 ounces, 23 inches, 14 3/4 inch head!

Caleb’s heartrate dipped twice – once when they broke my water and put a scalp monitor on him and again towards the end of my labor.  My doctor recommended a consult with an OB to see if I would need a C-section.  Thank God I was able to deliver naturally – with no pain meds!

Giving birth and meeting my perfect little boy was definitely the most amazing moment of my life!  We are so blessed!

  • Oh my goodness, he is soooo beautiful!! Congratulations to you! And way to go on the no pain meds. What a brave woman you are! I am so happy for you. By the way, Caleb is the name my husband and I have picked out should we ever have another boy (we think), so you know I love it! How have your first couple of weeks as a mommy been? I can’t wait to see more pics and updates soon! Hope all is well and God bless.

  • @Jeffnaman - thanks!

@chosenandblessed - thank you!  so far things have been going well.  we figured out that he sleeps best in his bouncy seat, so that has allowed me to get some rest and get some things done.  :)

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!  That is such exciting news!  First, you looked beautiful with your pregnant belly.  :)

Second, I LOVE his name.  I have loved the name Caleb for several years now and want to name my son (should the Lord bless me with one) that.

Wow, he is a big baby!!  Way to go on having a natural birth with NO pain meds!  Wow!  And with such a big baby!  I’m impressed!

    He is beautiful!

  • @leannenannette - @leannenannette - Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  Yes, use the name Caleb!  It’s got a wonderful meaning (faithful man) and the story of Caleb in the Bible is great.  Yes, he is a big boy!  I definitely considered getting some pain meds once or twice during labor, but I’m glad I held out.  Now, I’m convinced I can do anything.  :)

  • CONGRATULATIONS!

Oh my gosh! You were huge in your picture! But SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! Caleb looks so tiny that it’s hard to believe that he’s over 9 pounds!!! And I am still in shock that you didn’t use pain med. Were you in terrible pain? I know some people don’t feel anything… God Bless!

  • @geniusbarb - Thanks!  The pain was terrible at times, but only temporary.  I’m glad I was able to do it naturally…I have a newfound respect for my mother!
